Which Las Vegas Hotels Are Closing?
If you are wondering which of the many Las Vegas hotels are closing, you’re not alone. The Mirage, Fontainebleau, and Wynn-Encore are among them. While these closures are unfortunate, they may not spell the end of Las Vegas as a popular travel destination. In fact, some of them may even be a positive sign for the travel industry. So what do we do about these closures?
The Mirage
When it comes to Las Vegas casinos, The Mirage is one of the classics. Known for its volcano, sultan and other iconic landmarks, the Mirage has been an institution in the city for decades. Although the casino’s closure comes as a shock to many, clients will remember the experience fondly. They can’t imagine the Strip without the volcano, rainforest atrium or dolphin habitat. Similarly, they can’t imagine it without the gardens and animals that make up Siegfried and Roy’s Secret Garden.
Wynn-Encore
Since Oct. 19, the Wynn-Encore hotels have been closed from noon on Mondays through early Thursday afternoons. The resorts’ restaurants and casino will remain open. Encore is directly adjacent to the Wynn Las Vegas hotel, which remains open 24 hours a day. MGM executives recently announced the Encore would be closed until at least May 1.
Fontainebleau
Construction of the Fontainebleau hotel and casino in Las Vegas has resumed after 15 years. The hotel will have 3,700 hotel rooms and 550,000 square feet of convention space. Other amenities will include pools, restaurants, and a spa. But there’s no way to know for sure when it will open. Marriott has not responded to requests for comment. It is unclear how long it will take to finish the project.
Harrah’s
In the heart of the Strip, Harrah’s is one of the most popular hotels in Las Vegas. The luxurious suites are equipped with a 55-inch television, a full-service bar, an entertainment center, and Gilchrist & Soames bath products. Hyatt Place
With the closure of the Silverton off-Strip casino and hotel, 600 workers are being furloughed. Fortunately, the Hyatt Place Las Vegas at Silverton Village remains open. The hotel is a nongaming hotel and operates as a licensed essential business. A coronavirus outbreak has forced the closure of non-essential businesses. In Vegas, there are still some great Hyatt Place properties.
The Berkley
Located in the south end of the famed Strip, The Berkley has been a favorite of locals for over 30 years. Despite its casual atmosphere, the 18-story resort offers luxurious amenities like an outdoor pool and a fully-equipped kitchen. Mandalay Bay
The Hacienda Hotel, located at the southern end of the Strip, closed down and was replaced by the Mandalay Bay in 1996. It is also home to the Mandalay Bay Convention Center, the fifth largest convention center in the country with 1.7 million square feet of event space, including the world’s largest pillar-less ballroom.
